Wow, nearly 5 months since an update. That's pretty terrible. I'm sorry to everyone out there who kept waiting for some new stuff. The truth is, I've been focusing on getting the Iced Earth site up and running, so I haven't had much time for The Power of Metal. Also, the sound files are now gone forever, so I lost a little heart in the site when they left. Anyway, I still have reviews. New ones include Rage's "Live From the Vault," Bruce Dickinson's "Accident of Birth," and 5 Skyclad albums I'd never gotten to. And expect more soon.
2/3/97
I put up a couple of things that people emailed me. The acoustic guitar
chords for Michael Kiske's "Do I Remember a
Life?" and a more complete review of Viper's history.
Oh yeah, and in one of the cooler things that's ever happened to me, I've
suddenly become the Webmaster for Iced Earth's new official page. More on
this later.
1/21/97
I'm finally back at school, so that means the sounds are back up again.
But this is the last semester that I'll be able to provide them, and after
that, they'll be gone (or at least greatly reduced.) So enjoy 'em while you
can. I've added a bunch of new stuff in my time off; here's a list.
- Made a Nevermore page.
- Made some cosmetic changes to the Iced Earth page
and added an interview.
- I added a bunch of new sections to the "Others"
page, including: Anacrusis, Angra, Annihilator, Crimson Glory, Kamelot,
Sanctuary, Stratovarius, and Viper.
- On the Helloween page, I added reviews and
sounds from "High Live" and the "Power" single. Also put up a transcript of a Web chat with Michael Weikath. Check that
out, it's pretty cool. And exclusive!
- Finally put up my own song by song review
of Michael Kiske's "Instant Clarity." Added a sound there as well.
- Added some more links on the Sources page.
- Modified my CD list to include year of release,
number of tracks, and total running time.
12/20/96
All of the sound files are currently unavailable!
I'm at home for Christmas break, and my computer is at home with me, so
my server is not connected to the Internet. I'll be back January 21st, with
a bunch of improvements and even more sounds. Until then, have a merry
Christmas and a raging New Year!
11/2/96
Word is that Iced Earth is going to re-release
their original self-titled album. But it's going to be much more: all songs
will be redone with Matthew Barlow on vocals, there will be some new versions,
some new lyrics, new cover art, and a bonus track from their first demo.
No idea when though, since I think they're still touring some more in Europe.
Thanks to Peter Birgel and "Heavy oder was?" for the info.
10/9/96
I finally added reviews on the Rage page of
"Lingua Mortis" and "End of All Days"
In other news, word flying around is that Skunkworks (Bruce Dickinson's band)
has broken up.
10/6/96
I apologize to all of you have tried to download sound files recently and have
been unsuccessful. My network connection has been having problems, and my
computer has been dying frequently. I was gone this weekend, that's why it was
down so long.
There's few things I hate more than links
that don't work, so I'm trying my hardest to fix the problem. Unfortunately,
this probably means that service may be intermittent for a while.
On the upside, while I was away, I picked up the new live Helloween
2CD set, "High Live," so I'll have some stuff from that up sooner or later.
10/4/96
Added four new sounds on the Rage page, from
Lingua Mortis and End of all Days (both really cool albums!) Listen to Rage
doing Iron Maiden's "The Trooper." Also made a bunch of cosmetic changes
to that page.
9/30/96
I added a new Michael Kiske page. He's the ex-singer
of Helloween, and he has a new album called "Instant Clarity" in case you
didn't know.
9/20/96
I recently got a few new albums of interest: Rage's "Lingua Mortis,"
Skyclad's "Prince of the Poverty Line" and "Irrational Anthems." They're
all really cool and I'll have sounds and reviews for them up soon.
9/9/96
Added a couple of new soundfiles from Gamma Ray's "Alive '95" CD to the
Gamma Ray page, as well as a review
of the album.
9/5/96
Major changes in Gamma Ray! Apparently, Jan Rubach and Thomas Nack have
quit the band. Read more at Page of the Free.
9/4/96
The sounds are all back up and running (8:18PM CDT)
Sorry to all those of you have tried downloading files in the last day
and have been unsuccessful. The power at my dorm cut out, and it's
supposed to be off for a day. Hopefully it won't be any longer.
I fixed many of the links that weren't working, and made the links to
outside sites that stayed in my frames be able to escape my site. (In my
opinion, one of the biggest HTML crimes a man can commit is trapping someone
withing their frames.) If anyone finds any bad links, let me know.
9/3/96
I'm back at school, and everything is back up and running. I've got
sixty megabytes of sound files (which is nearly six hours!) Most of the
band pages are complete, but it's constanty growing. I just got a tape
with Angra, and old and new Blind Guardian on it (thanks Gui!) so some of
that will be up soon. Stay tuned!
